Industrial Engineering (IE) is the science of understanding the industrial and service systems and bridging the gap between management and operations in a cross-section of organizations and professional fields. It is concerned with designing, developing, implementing and improving integrated systems of people, materials, information, equipment and energy. It develops skills in mathematical, physical and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems. Service industries including healthcare or government agencies utilize IE to improve their operations and work. IE students will learn to design systems at two levels: Human Activity Systems, concerned with the physical workplace and Management Control Systems which is concerned with the procedures for planning, measuring and controlling all activities within the organization.
