Applied Biotechnology major is an interdisciplinary field that applies technology to biology towards the objective of improving the quality of human life by developing innovative products that help maintain the planet's health. Examples include bio-based vaccines, advanced and more accurate diagnostic tools for diseases in humans and animals, alternative fuels based on corn or sugar cane, crossbred harvests that resist pests, and decrease dependence on chemical pesticides, among others.
Graduates of this major can be hired in industries such as manufacturing, pharmaceutical, chemical, healthcare, agriculture, textile industries, forensic and molecular biology labs, etc.
