The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology announced, on 5th October 2020, the names of the state award winners for the year 2019 - Nile Awards, and State Merit, Excellence, and Encouragement Awards - during the academy's council session. The council was chaired by Prof. Khaled Abdel-Ghafar, the Minister of Higher Education and Research and Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, the President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and members of the council.
It is an absolute pride to announce that the State Encouragement Awards in sciences and advanced technological sciences for the year 2019, in the engineering field, was awarded to our outstanding faculty members: Dr. Lobna A. Said and Dr. Ahmed Soltan.
The Academy named the winners of all-state awards, bodies, individuals, women, pioneers and young African researchers, and the total number of prizes reached 109 awards, which is the first time that all the prizes are announced at one time, and that’s why the council held on 5th October is considered one of the most important scientific events in Egypt. It is expected by all scholars and young researchers in Egypt and Africa to get a tribute from the state for their efforts in promoting the homeland.
Dr. Lobna A. Said is an Assistant Professor in Nanoelectronics Integrated Systems Center (NISC) and Microelectronics System Design Master Program (MSD) at Nile University. She pursued her Ph.D., M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in electronics and electrical communications engineering in Cairo University, Egypt, in 2016, 2011 and 2007, respectively, with the highest honors. She received the 2016 - 2018 best thesis award from Cairo for her Ph.D. thesis. Previously, Dr. Lobna was a part-time assistant professor in the German University in Cairo (GUC) in 2016 and a full-time assistant lecturer from 2007 till 2016. She also published 50+ international papers in the top journals and conferences in the field of fractional-order circuits, analog electronics, circuits and systems, and chaos theory.
Dr. Ahmed Soltan received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Cairo University, Egypt, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in electronics and communication from Cairo University in 2014. He received the 2014 - 2016 best thesis award from Cairo for his Ph.D. thesis. He worked on circuit and system design and modeling in the fractional-order domain during his Ph.D. He is currently a Research Associate and EDA/CAD Specialist with the School of Engineering, Newcastle University, Newcastle, U.K. He was a Teacher Assistant with the faculty of Engineering, Fayoum University, Egypt, for nine years and was an R&D Firmware Engineer for eight years. He was also an R&D Manager for an LED company at Qatar for one year and a half. Dr. Soltan’s research aims to establish a new healthcare monitoring system and diagnosis on the fly by the development of autonomous devices and he published more than 50 papers in many prestigious journals.
The Council announced that Cairo University had the largest share - 10 awards - and the National Research Center comes in second place with 8 awards, followed by Ain Shams University, Mansoura, and Zagazig, where each of them got 5 awards, and then Tanta University, who got 4 awards; Menoufia University won 3 awards, followed by Alexandria University, Assiut, Suez Canal, Nile University, American University, and Scientific Research City, where each of them won two awards. Kafr El Sheikh University, Damietta, Beni Suef, Minya New Valley, Zewail City, British, National Astronomical Research, Sadat Academy, National Laser Sciences, Atomic Energy Commission, and 57357 Hospital received one award between Nile and appreciation awards, excellence, encouragement, pioneers, and women.
Nile University has its share of many of the scientific-related awards distributed nationally and internationally, whether awarded for its faculty members or for Nile University as a respectable academic and research institution. NU has top-notch members that add so much more to the university than just their academic excellence and they have been the main asset to the university’s core value.
